Mary Horst was always creative and identified as gifted, according to her mother. She started taking piano lessons around age 3, switching to cello in the 5th grade. Now, 17 and a junior at the Westminster School in Atlanta, Mary plays in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra under the direction of Jere Flint. She has traveled with the orchestra to Hawai’I and China and has received the “Outstanding Cellist� award at the Red Lodge Music Camp in Red Lodge, Montana, where she performed in a large orchestra as well as a small chamber quartet.
